Description

i had a hell of time creating this one. i havent drawn the darkness (topcow prod...my day job) in a long time. its a break from drawing hot sexy, tempting, seductive women most of u will never lay ur hands on make u wanna lock urself in the bathroom to stroke one off kinda women...that i needed...believe it or not this is what i fell in love with..drawing dynamic action packed super hero's is what got me into comics and changed my life...i believe its what i do best.

drawing women doesnt take half as long and is more peaceful to me...i can go on auto pilot if i wanted cause i know the female form so well...but this kinda stuff?? requires all of my attention and skill...because of its organic nature, i can create any line or shape i want. but it has to look cool and not like a mess...even though the rules are more flexable...theres still a wrong way to make something up

like i said its been awhile and i wanted this piece to come out good...so i spent a lot of time on the composition...i even shrunk it down and blacked it in, in marker to make sure the shapes were solid...the prob with drawing two figures on a cover is that more then not, u might split the page in half just by having two figures on it...

when ever u have a guy more in the foreground and leaning forward, u might run into the prob of the guy behind him looking like he's "ramming" him in the ass... say it was wolverine in front...he normally is growling and the guy behind him's crotch is right behind wolverines ass.. ...again looks like he's ramming the guy gay style. so i was weary of that and had him off to the side more...but it looked to stiff...so i planted him way up top and felt it worked without messing with the composition

i made sure that the big guy in the front's legs were spread real wide to support the massive upper body...makes for a strong stance and looks like he's immovable. with one leg closer to us than the other gives the impression that he's lunging at us...along with the out stretched arm..

once i had his stance and structure down....i needed to pick the lighting so i can start to render and shape him. i dont have too much experience in drawing such big guys...and rendering over such large shapes was def a challenge for me...cause rendering over a reg size guy, one or two sets of lines would do the trick...but with this guy i needed waaay more...like on his bicep...there's a good five or six set of lines going on there...and rendering is something i cant really do without on a piece like this...cause it helps add that dark element that i want..and leave a great balance in "grey" in between the B & W.

a tricky part was the separating the two planes where the darkness (smaller guy) stood and pitt...all the creatures i drew all came from behind pitt where the darkness stands and are all coming from a massive chunk of black...my prob was that most of pitts lower body is blacked out...and u cant have the two sets of black over lapping...the whole things turns to shit..black shit...heh ..........so i drew these set of faded lines to separate the two planes..so that pitts lower body would stand out against the white behind him.

a good way to portray power or fierceness in hands is, in my opinion, to make them look real tense...like if the person was just electro shocked...i imagine the hands would seize up...i spread the fingers way out as far back as they can..then curl the tips in to try to accomplish that look.

another way i tried to show fierceness was in the darkness' arms and hands..by spreading and stretching his arms back, opens up his torso and that gives off the vibe of fearlessness..when ever i draw vulnerability in a woman i bring her shoulders in to protect herself...her heart or chest...to "open" her chest would be to bring her shoulders back..shows no fear, come and get it kinda thing...same with the guy...opening the chest area means he's ready for a fight and ready to go in swinging.

drawing the demons was fun...they come out of the darkness' imagination and he can create them as he pleases...since i have the pencil...today i am the darkness and create them as "I" please...i always try and set my mind free when ever i draw these guys...i gave one a helmet with 4 horns..one a harness...another a spiky ribcage.. all very fun to come up with...

im tired and going to sleep now...

GO ASS!!!
