Description

this was a challenge,i had the end result in my mind before i even touched pencil to paper, but it didnt turn out quite like i wanted. in many ways it turned out better. i was asked to draw him on a gargoyle and ive never done that in color before so i wasnt sure how it would turn out. i think i inked too many lines on the stone and wish i left most of it empty so i could do the effect with the color instead. but thats just me.

super heroes is my 1st love before drawing asses believe it or not. i love drawing muscles, action poses and group shots of the xmen and such, and being able to add eye candy to it all. like in this one with the cape, rain and his lunging forward, all makes for a more dynamic feel that u just cant do with sexy pin up art. i RARELY get asked to draw men and i dont blame anyone, there are so many other artist that are much better at it and not many that are better at GO ASS as me. so it all works out. i do get pigeonholed in the sexy category but its what everyone pays me for.

i try never to have the shoulders, hands, elbows knees, etc, "even-leveled" on the paper cause it immediately stiffens the pose. with characters like superman and WW, its better to do so cause it creates the feeling of strength in the stance. imagine wolverine trying to tip over captain america in his power stance, just not gonna happen. but if all of ur weight was resting on one leg, there's a better chance. and with one leg forward like bats here, gives the illusion of faster movement as if to pounce. the open hand also gives off that feeling because it indicates that he is ready to grab or choke someone or perhaps grab his batterang.

i tried to give an ambient light from the city below to have a more morbid feel and i think i like this technique and want to use it more often, but first i need to master it. ive never used this much red before.

i HATE drawing buildings more than anything, i dont like rulers or straight lines and its one of the main reasons i dont mind not working for the Big 2, everyone lives in NY and id blow my brains out drawing so any squares. i dont know how they do it. but i like the way the roof top turned out.

as u know dept is very important to me and if u look closer at the rain, all the lines behind him are done thinner and lighter to make sure it looks pushed back. this is my first time drawing rain on a commissions before so i still need to work on that too.

GO ASS!!!
