wrapped with love by ebas wrapped with love by ebas
this is the final version of the wonderland xmas special i just posted the layout for....

this is the first editor said he wanted a "playful" cover and i did so on the initial version...

and colored by the amazingly talented steve firchow

but as u can see i took that idea and tossed it in the garbage...if i wouldve went with that one....i wouldve felt i had let myself just didnt feel right the way it was...not only was it too goofy and not in keeping with "grim" in grim fairy i dont get to draw darker covers very often...

i went with my gut on this one...after i woke up the next morning and looked at the layout again i (honestly) hit my forehead in frustration cause i had waisted all that time drawing this layout i wasnt going to even use....blah..

i wanted a skinny lanky hatter and in the thumb nail ( litterally about 2 inches by 2 1/2 inches)...i captured his i tried to capture it again the second time around...

he now has a much stronger stance and creepier...and the whole point of this concept was her being bound and tied why was she surprised and him so goofy she looks like she's given up on hope and in a trance and he's going to have his way with her...

i moved the bow of the ribbon up to her jubblies cause my perverted mind wanted to have more skin showing down south..nobody in comics does that......... and i knew i could get away with i say why it leads ur eye bettter

her stance is changed too... cause b4, it felt like she was struggling...but had a suprised look which didnt its sexy and matches her expression of giving up better....and now that her knee's are together i had her in the ground....which is damn cool...makes no sense really but what ever...she's naked ; )

the robbon's that are going away from her body are suppose to resemble the shape of an xmas tree...not sure anybody would see that...but i tried

i wanted wonderland style everything..from the concept, feel and to the candy canes...even the hill in the background is an homage to tim burton...i like the look of the candy if they are alive....but with wonderland patterns on them

him standing on the pile of gifts is also raises him higher than her to give him more power over its a grinch like ambiance of him having stolen xmas....

the candy cains really helped establish a lot of depth here...the get bigger as they get closer to the camera and further down as well...and i put a few in between the ribbon strands to define the plains more...

the thing above her head is my fav part...i think it very true to the disney wonderland cartoon

for those of u who liked the first layout better..."sticks out tongue" cause im drawing covers and not u.... ; )

still no ass....sniff...go ass

i say again

Missile... toe! HAHA! And can I have that for Christmas? I've been very naughty, and I think I deserve such a present!

Wonderfully done and comically morbid and sexy, all in one!

Hi Ebas
May i have permission to try a color on it too?
I't ll be cool to work on a piece like it.

Freud would have a field day if he saw this. I have rarely seen such unabashed dominance symbolism in one image. From the gift wrapping to the resigned expression, everything about her says 'prey'.
ebas Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2010
well said, and yes freud would any other im sure most ppl that are going to see it...but i have confidence enough to know that im deeper and complex than the obvious

I really liked the original because I liked the emotion on t heir faces, which told a different story.

I imagined that he had just whispered something in her ear that frightened her. So I imagined what might do that, and I imagined that, instead, he was holding up a snake, and that he had just whispered what he was going to her with that snake.

I did a quick mock up for this re-imagining. Here is the link.

If you would like me to take it down, that is not a problem :) But I hope it can stay.

Also, would you mind if I colored one of your drawings?

I love the fact that you post these huge explanations about your artwork. I rarely ever see that. There are so many people that are too modest, too lazy, or don't want anyone to know their secrets or something. But your honesty and openness is so refreshing. Your form is also impeccable. Especially when you draw the female figure with no reference! You have obviously studied, and hard. I would love to study under you.

Saw this cover on the Zenescope site and then came over here to see if you had it on your page so I could let you know how unbearably awesome I thought the concept and execution was.

It was funny to find out they wanted a different idea as the cover. I'm glad they let you do your idea!

I kind of also liked the way the your first layout for this idea looked, I LIKED the surprised expression on the first one.. but that's just me. I do also think it looks better with red ribbons than blue ribbons. But anyway, the main point of me coming here was to let you know I loved the cover, keep up the good work. :D

Excellent work Eric, you always amaze me.

I love it.

on the sever???

who is this??

and thanks

RayArtz Featured By Owner Dec 8, 2009
Hey Eric, This is Corey--I did the "Forgotten" collab image with Nei
We actually spoke at SDCC (one of the thousands you probably talked too and you told me how to say Knee-eye's name correctly, haha)
I'm currently coloring covers for Zenescope. So far I've only done 6 covers but it has been an absolute blast. And seeing my work in the previews catalog is really surreal for me right now.

Someday, like many people, I hope to do my own covers. So I always look at what you do and read your super long descriptions for some pointers and to have an understanding of what editors look for. That and your work is a major inspiration to me.

I love your pencil drawings more than anything. I feel like when they colour or line your work it losses a little something.

and yes, I agree, go. ass.
ebas Featured By Owner Dec 8, 2009
i know...color never comes out good on my art for some reason

This is beautifully done. I am in awe with those details. Simply Fan-freakin' tastic. However, I'm curious as to how her jubblies haven't popped out of that bow. I can't imagine that fabric being thick/strong enough to hold them together very long (Unless utilizing some very heavy duty staples or something of the sort). ;d And though a clever play on words it took me a while to get the "missile-toe". Anyhoo, lovely piece. I can't wait to see more of your work.
ebas Featured By Owner Dec 8, 2009
not everyone got the missile right away and others did...its my fav part of the piece

and u are taking the jubblies thing waaaay too serious...what about her legs knee deep in the "cracked" if the ground were solid and hard and dry and cracked as if she shot out of it...

or the hatter's weight being supported by toy boxes...or how a bloody toe is stuck to a rocket that is WAY too small??

shall i go on??
Kriddles Featured By Owner Dec 8, 2009  Hobbyist General Artist
Naaaaah. Sexy women shoot out of the ground all the time as well as defy gravity. ;d Anyone knows that.

The jubblies don't bug me. It was just an... observation that made me smile. ;3
meepymoof Featured By Owner Dec 4, 2009  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Gah, I didn't get the missle-toe thing until I read the comments.......boy, do I feel dumb!!!!!

But yep, I do think that this version is way better than the other concept.

BRAVO!!!!!

Count me among those that like the first one better, or at least elements of it.

I agree that Hatter is stronger in the second. He's more imposing.

However, I prefer the girl's expression and stance in the first one BECAUSE it looks like she's struggling. It gives the picture a lot more energy, and the stance is sexier.

I really hope you do finish the first one. I'd love a crack at coloring it if you ever do.

sadly i will never finish the first one... i dont like it it would never see print even if i do...
