hello everybody...long time no?? hope u all have been going crazy waiting for me to post another piece...its just that these take me soooo long to do...i seem to get a lot of possitive comments on my super long descriptions and i couldnt post a pic without it now can i? oh how i wish i could...the good thing is that u dont have to read it if u dont want to...i mean who has the time??
this is a piece i did to go in the calgary expo up in canuck land that i will be attending next month in april.
i was told to do something western themed and i asked the guy what was it he wanted me to draw...he said anything...very rarely are we given the opportunity to flex our creative muscle...have u ever thought to urself...what would i draw/paint that i want everybody to see and feel moved by my contribution to a book/gallery?? think about it... out of anything in the world what would u like to express....and then go stare at a blank canvas...this was my dilemma...well sort of...i had only a couple hrs to get this done and they needed it yesterday...i didnt have much time to prep for this...
i had no paper left to draw on either...so i ruffled through some old ones i had started and not completed...true story (bet if u heard this in a movie u'd be like...yeah right like that ever happens) i had already had a pose and most of the figure laid out and the face already drawn (thank god, u all know how much i hate drawing faces) all done up in cowboy gear with hat and all....so i was like there IS a god!! i had paper...a pose and shes already in a western getup...so i was like i have no time or paper to do anything else so i cheated and used this...
i finished the hair and went down and started drawing her right arm (as i draw from right to left cause im left handed)....and this AWFUL feeling came over me...at first i thought it was indigestion cause i ate a carl's jr 6$ beacon guacamole cheese burger....but it wasnt....it was the simple fact the my drawing was cliche and boring....so i set me drawing in front of me as usual and stared at it for a bit....and it dawned on me...im like...IDIOT!! u have NO editor No script to follow...why is this a typical hot texas chick with a lasso??
i had already drawn the face and right arm like i said and i was like... how can i make shit up!! playing god with my pencil is so much fun to do...going back to the book/galley thing...what would i do if i had no rules... oh man did the wheels start spinning....im like lets have some stupid looking SPURS growing out of her back...YEAH yeah!! and and lets have BULLETS growing out of her arm!! hehe...i went and got a lil geeky...but i was like who cares its my drawing and the guy did say draw anything...that i did...so i erased a lot of the get up she had on and changed as much as i could...like she has a knee pad with spikes on it...and spikes down the seem of her chaps...changed her revolver into a semi shot gun...the rope into what looks like barb wire rope...what do u see??? made her hat pointy like "shredder" from the TMNT...oh yeah! and lastly...i originally had horns growing out of her head in the layout and as i was jizzing all over the cool hat i forgot to draw the horns in...the layout lines musta smudged out or something...i really think horns woulda made the pic look more organic ....and i was like maybe i can have them coming out her shoulders??? nah...her hips?? stupid!!! ah ha! lets have horns "growing" out of her back!! yes! funny thing though...she can grown bullets out her arm..horns out her back along with spurs...but she actually had to go get her chin pierced with a spike...lame...
i felt a lot happier with the road i took (and the awful feeling was gone too) cause i dont think u see this sort of thing everyday...although i woulda liked to have gone and done something completely original, i simply didnt have the time.. but im still happy...
i wanted to have bullets coming out of both arms, but like i said i had already drawn the right arm...i think it looks weird that they are only coming out of one arm...and another thing...if they can grown right out of her body why does she need a gun...shouldnt she be able to project them fast enough to kill?? maybe.. but lets pretend she cant...
ok art talk...i tried for a thinner upper lip then i normally go and gave her a filtrum ( look it up) that i normally dont do either...
to have the effect of "growing out of" i shaded the base of the object where the skin and spur/bullet meet a little darker and in kind of a "U" shape to help give the illusion...almost like if u are pressing really hard with the spur...
i dont recommend drawing wrinkles on a woman, it often times make em look older...i did it anyway on the elbow...not flattering but i like it...and defining muscles is not encouraged either cause if done wrong, looks "rather manish" i did that too on the arms/triceps and rib cage... its just my style...i like drawing it and i dont think it looks to bad the way i do it
the base of the horns is the key to creating the look of "grown out of" vs. "put on"....at the base of the horns i drew a series of fading ripple like lines...the trick is to not draw a solid line connecting anything...
drawing the lasso was a pain in my ass AND my hand!!! damn detail!!! but its all in the name of eye candy..gotta have it
i never really had a hard time drawing hair...as a shy kid in middle skool and such...i was afraid to talk to the chica''s so i stared at the back of their heads instead...and in doing so fell in love with hair...i loved drawing it from a very young age...a cool trick i learned is to draw big chunks in and take a thin eraser and erase a thin line going in the opposite direction and draw rogue hairs in that thin blank space... ..helps with the flowy effect...
and last...is the ass...ah yes the ass....i had to draw many a cover lately without ass representation...and at long last....i am satisfied...
*edit* i just realized that shes not wearing chaps...just thigh high leather leggings i guess... also, i drew this on my reg con commission paper and i drew it for a book and now it has no home..so if anybody wants a more detailed than my normal con comm's its ur's if u have 300 bucks...first come first serve

In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
