this is yet another Witchblade done for me #1 fan...done in belgium in my hotel room yet again..sorry for the awful picture quality but like i said i dont take my 11 x 17 scanner with me (surprising how many ppl dont read this and ask..."buy a scanner eric!)
im actually pretty happy with this one...the face especially, and u all know how much i hate drawing faces...i gave her thinner lips, which i dont like to do..as well as a philtrum (dimple on ur upper lip...which i also dont like to do..but its fun to experiment) i also gave her the sleepy eye look and raised her left eye brow a lil..i find it gives women that very sexy look...u know the one where the very hot way out of ur league woman in the red dress at the bar gives u to come over and buy her a drink so she can drug u and cut out ur liver and sell it?? that look.
there may or may not be wind where our heroin is at, but i dont care and i make her hair flying all over the place...i love the flowy hair thing..plus its fun to draw.
this kind a view of the torso is extremely hard to do...for most ppl hehe...i draw women so much that i pretty much got it down cold..and i like that. this is the tricky part..if u look closely at the pelvis and draw a line from the top of the pelvis bone, side to side, u can see how far down it shoots..but her shoulders are not on the same plain as her pelvis...i took her shoulders and twisted them towards us and down a lil so that her boobies are leveled...i think it gives it more dynamics..if i were to have kept it on the same plain as her pelvis i think it woulda been more boring..
this girl is actually not touching the ground and kinda floating a lil...somehow in the magic world of comics u can get away with that..the Witchblade is holding her up by her legs somehow...prob not really possible but i dont care it looks cool.
when designing this i already had the wb in mind wrapping around her like that. i find i gives the readers eye an artistic orgasm of sorts when theres things flying all over the place...its like "OMG!! theres sh#t everywhere...and i dont know where to look!!! a lil trick i learn from Joe Mad and jim lee...they always put something in front of the camera or figure to add a lot of dept..
im not sure this will make sence, but i find that when drawing anything...and i mean just about anything...u can use the "medium, small and big" approach. for example the witchblade tendrils...everytime i bent the tendril i used the "BIG" technique as in leave the BIG part of the area BLANK so that the eye has time to rest and by the time it looks further down ur eye is ready for more detail..so when the tendril got thinner...i used the SMALL technique...i drew a lot more detial...so in the end product..as a whole...looking at the tendrils...u will see small chunks of detail...medium and big chunks of detail.. and i use this for hair, rocks..everything...its a good way to balance everything out.. but trying to understand what i just wrote?? hehe good luck.
I think this might be one of my favorites from you. I noticed immediately that her lips were different from your normal style. (they all look the same usually) That definitely brought a sexy quality to the picture on its own. Her eyes are very sultry too. Very very nice! I enjoyed the subtle changes in your style in this piece.
