this is the 1st time i've ever done mrs marvel...and to be honest i was not excited to copic her at all. her costume is all black and very lil skin tone to play with....but when i found out it was going to be done up in "grail" quality ($1,000 if u want one) it means i can add a lot more around her to make up for the lack of play in her costume. yay me!
i was very excited to get at it....there was a lot of things on this i've never copic'd b4. like Cap's scales and Iron man's armor and such. since this is still tech a "single" figure piece i could only do "bust" of the skrulls, and believe me that was enough.
the mental planning of layers always slows me down. i know how to use the markers but layering dark against light is something im just not use to in color. i wish i woulda added more darkness at the ft of mrs marvel so the smoke woulda stood out more...eh, learning process like i said.
this piece stands at 11x17, which is full size comic board, and only the 2nd copic piece ive done at this scale. for some reason Strathmore can not make this size as smooth as the 11x14 i normally work on...and it "drags" the tip of my markers A LOT and really slows me down as well as dries the tips out faster...bleh
im very happy with this piece, it feels like a full blown cover to an advengers book.
I just discovered your work and I'm looking at each and every piece, seeing what I can learn from you. I absolutely love your technique, how you work with outlines and what you do with proportions and how you handle perspective. Love how you solved the above-shoulder / neck area on this one, for example. You know how to apply attractive forms to emphasize shape and your use of shading and light is impeccable. We need more people like you in comicbook art.
