The Elements

my current pride and joy. since this is for me,  i'd like u all to meet "The Elements". what started out as the "Mojo girls" is now Passion and Lust. i spent a lot of time designing these girls (even though they dont look like much) and it was nerve racking, i even switched their hair the day i started drawing them. i felt their personalities fit the others better.

read on if ur bored or aspiring:
now, as bizarre as this sounds its "art". for these nude type covers i need a gimmick to sell, unfortunately its the nature of the beast. so i was like, how do i get a 69, tongue, literal tits and GO ASS action on this cover and make it tasteful??? its harder than it sounds, i went through SEVERAL layouts b4 this one was chosen. and freeze framing this one in my mind was harder than most i've ever done. i sat with my eyes closed for hours and moved the camera around every angle to get this right. i had the pose 80% right, but the story telling was off and i had to redo the whole thing again. the hardest part is that there is NO way to use reference for this type of shot. even if i were to ask my cosplay friends to help with the poses, it would just be too difficult. art advise here is STUDY the human figure all day, all the time. its the only way im able to move the figure around and not "need" ref, buts it is necessary.

the top girl has white tiger stripes and shes one of my favorite designs ever, and i cant wait to play with her, shes been fun so far. (wait till u see the other cover) Her name is "Lust" and has a gold tongue and its the source of her power. i aimed for a tasteful image that still tingled the senses and i think it worked. i love drawing women in a "serene" setting more than sexy, sultry or anything else. i feel its when woman are closest to being "art" without being naked. i feel that its most powerful and can literally make it seem like time itself has stopped, when u look at the image.

i'd like to introduce "Passion" (i just realized there's ass in pASSion. what are the odds) she is the source, and what started the whole universe around it all. her hair is made of gold and she breathes passion into anything she wants. i feel shes an extension of me and wish passion was in everything everyone did at all times.

if u look at Lust's hands being placed on passion, u will notice only finger tips connect, this touch is not aggressive or lustful, a "grazed" touch against her skin is more passion. this can be more effective than a handful of breast. story telling with every body part (even hair) is very important to me. i feel it brings one into the image.

take out the cape like sash they have and u will notice the serene feel immediately disappears. u need "flow" to fully accomplish this look and that's why long hair is so important. Nei will be drawing the top figure on the regular version of this, and i have a few other artist wanting to team up as well, so be excited.

Batman on a gargoyle by ebas
Batman on a gargoyle
this was a challenge,i had the end result in my mind before i even touched pencil to paper, but it didnt turn out quite like i wanted. in many ways it turned out better. i was asked to draw him on a gargoyle and ive never done that in color before so i wasnt sure how it would turn out. i think i inked too many lines on the stone and wish i left most of it empty so i could do the effect with the color instead. but thats just me.

super heroes is my 1st love before drawing asses believe it or not. i love drawing muscles, action poses and group shots of the xmen and such, and being able to add eye candy to it all. like in this one with the cape, rain and his lunging forward, all makes for a more dynamic feel that u just cant do with sexy pin up art. i RARELY get asked to draw men and i dont blame anyone, there are so many other artist that are much better at it and not many that are better at GO ASS as me. so it all works out. i do get pigeonholed in the sexy category but its what everyone pays me for.

i try never to have the shoulders, hands, elbows knees, etc, "even-leveled" on the paper cause it immediately stiffens the pose. with characters like superman and WW, its better to do so cause it creates the feeling of strength in the stance. imagine wolverine trying to tip over captain america in his power stance, just not gonna happen. but if all of ur weight was resting on one leg, there's a better chance. and with one leg forward like bats here, gives the illusion of faster movement as if to pounce. the open hand also gives off that feeling because it indicates that he is ready to grab or choke someone or perhaps grab his batterang.

i tried to give an ambient light from the city below to have a more morbid feel and i think i like this technique and want to use it more often, but first i need to master it. ive never used this much red before.

i HATE drawing buildings more than anything, i dont like rulers or straight lines and its one of the main reasons i dont mind not working for the Big 2, everyone lives in NY and id blow my brains out drawing so any squares. i dont know how they do it. but i like the way the roof top turned out.

as u know dept is very important to me and if u look closer at the rain, all the lines behind him are done thinner and lighter to make sure it looks pushed back. this is my first time drawing rain on a commissions before so i still need to work on that too.

oh man, this was a pain to do. u all know how much i hate drawing faces and its cause i have not studied them like i have the figure. so its frustrating, because when i know something is "off", i don't know "exactly" how to fix it. eventually i get it right, but its with a lot of trial and error. i can fake anything in the comic medium and thats why u all think i can draw faces well, its because i've learned the comic way to draw them.

i find that my biggest strength is being able to walk away from the piece even though its not finished. i never ever rush the layout stage cause that's the most important. even though this is just a head sketch i'm very happy with the way it turned up.

GO ASS!!!

Phoenix 5 White Queen by ebas
Phoenix 5 White Queen

my first time drawing this version of the white queen, and i enjoyed it. i think she is now my fav looking female character. i had a hard time coming up with a pose that hasn't been done before, and i dodnt succeeded cause i rather show her full frontal and more iconic than go with the story telling pose. oh well.

there are NO digital enhancements on this at all, this is exactly what it looks like in real life, and is %100 copic marker. if any of u have this blank, its my fav to work on (for future ref)

the metal was a pain, like always. it takes massive mojoing for me to get it just right which i never seem to do, but i try. i really like the sassiness in her hair and eyes, along with her shoulders.

GO ASS!!!

Hey, quick question from someone VERY new to digital art with respects to comics, what is your preferred software and do you have any working knowledge of Magna Studio 5...I am looking for a good program and some of these can get quite expensive, so I'd rather not guess at something, I would be using it with a Wacom Cintiq...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Eric, I love your work, you're one of my favourite pencillers. Is it ok for me to use some of your work to practice inking and colours?
